Coated vs Uncoated
Coated vs Uncoated Calcium Carbonate
Two families of ground calcium carbonate, chosen by the system they go into.

Uncoated Calcium Carbonate
Natural ground calcium carbonate with no surface coating. Its performance depends on particle size and chemical properties.

Coated Calcium Carbonate
Surface-treated calcium carbonate, typically with stearic acid, offering hydrophobic behaviour and better compatibility with polymers in suitable applications.
| Property | Uncoated | Coated |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Natural mineral surface, no treatment | Surface-treated, typically with stearic acid |
| Affinity | Hydrophilic (water-loving) | Hydrophobic (water-repellent) |
| Typical use | Paints, construction, paper, ceramics, adhesives | Selected plastics, PVC and rubber formulations |
| Selection depends on | Particle size and chemical properties | Particle size, coating level and polymer system |
| Availability | Fine and milled grades available | Subject to confirmation |
Not all products are coated and not every micron grade can be coated. Please confirm availability with our team.
